Job description:

The University of Surrey is an international university with a world-class teaching and research profile and an enterprising spirit.  Inventive and forward thinking, our heritage shows a recurring theme of doing things differently – and achieving notable results.

As a result of our new strategic plan and future vision, the School of Biosciences and Medicine in the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences is recruiting an exceptional individual to the following full time academic position to continue to add to the successes that the School, Faculty and University have already enjoyed: Teaching Fellow in Veterinary Biology

Required Knowledge:

The post holder is expected to complement our existing strengths in microbiology, biology and veterinary sciences, in order to enable expansion of our BSc Veterinary Biology programme , capitalising on the reputation of our School of Veterinary Medicine and to broaden the ‘animal biology-specific’ extent of the programme.

The post holder will be expected to collaborate with colleagues across the School of Biosciences and Medicine, the School of Veterinary Medicine, and the wider Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences to deliver the best possible learning experience at both undergraduate and post-graduate level.  Experience of working with external organisations in the area of animal production and health would be beneficial.

Successful applicants will have a PhD in a relevant subject and bring a record of achievement in scholarship.   They will take pride in providing high quality teaching at both undergraduate and  postgraduate levels, working to improve methods of delivery and assessment by exploring, contributing to the development of, and embracing new approaches to pedagogy. In return we can offer an  energetic and forward thinking working environment, leisure facilities and access to a variety of staff development opportunities.

Informal enquiries can be made to either Dr Kikki Bodman-Smith, Director of Learning and Teaching, or Dr Alfred Thumser, Strategic Lead for Education, either by email (via, or telephone (+44 (0) 1483 686920).  For details on the benefits of working with us, and to apply on-line please visit our website:
